Decatur, IL – The City’s solar canopy project for the Decatur Civic Center parking lot is starting next week – Monday, June 10. The construction area will be fenced in. Please see attached map to understand where you can park! The fencing will be pulled in as they complete sections of installation. We anticipate the construction will last through the end of July 2024.
This $5-million project will include the construction of parking canopies with solar panels on top. Once complete, canopies will cover approximately 2/3 of the parking lot. This entire project comes at no cost to the City, and we will realize about $100,000+ in energy savings each year.
