The Decatur Sister Cities Committee and the City of Decatur will hold a ceremonial tree dedication at 9 a.m. Monday, September 26 in Central Park in honor of this year’s 50th anniversary of our city’s sister city friendship with Tokorozawa, Japan.
The two cities officially signed our sister city agreement on May 6, 1966 after a commander at a U.S. military logistics center in Tokorozawa noticed significant similarities between the two cities and suggested the relationship. Over the years there have been a number of people to people and cultural exchanges between our communities involving both local students and adults.
A dedication rain date has been tentatively planned for 9 a.m. Tuesday, September 27 in Central Park. Contact Kathy Sorensen at 620-6850 for more information.
