Tickets are on sale for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. luncheon which will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Decatur Club, located at 158 W. Prairie Avenue. Doors open at 11:15 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon.
This year’s speaker is James Lewis, retired United States Attorney for the Central District of Illinois. Mr. Lewis was a civil rights lawyer for individuals from Dr. King’s organization, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, when they were arrested in peaceful demonstrations in Mississippi.
Tickets are $40 each, and the cost for a table is $400. Tickets can be purchased at the City of Decatur Human Resources office located on the 2nd floor of the Decatur Civic Center, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Tickets will not be sold at the door, and the deadline for purchasing tickets is Monday, January 13.
The Freedom March is set for Monday, January 20 at noon. The March will commence from the Decatur Civic Center and will proceed north to the Church of the Living God Temple #1, 1915 N. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, where there will be a program featuring music and speakers.
