The Street Crimes – Narcotics Unit is comprised of 2 Detective Sergeants and 11 Detectives. Operational shifts vary each day due to the unique nature of vice investigations.

The Detectives assigned to the Street Crimes Unit annually work hundreds of narcotics related investigations, both short and long term. Many of these investigations are conducted in joint effort with the United States Department of Justice – Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals Service, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, as well as various local and state law enforcement agencies. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office has one Detective permanently assigned to work within the Decatur Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit.

In addition to narcotics related investigations, the Street Crimes Unit conducts several investigations each year for prostitution, illegal gambling, liquor violations and various non-drug related felonies.
