Police Urging Motorists to Stay Off Roads Unless Necessary Due to Wet, Freezing Roadways

With the current precipitation on the roads, the roads are wet and freezing in many areas. The City street department has worked through the night and will continue to work through the day to make the roads as safe as possible. Illinois Department of Transportation and Macon County Road crews are out as well. We urge citizens to stay off of the roads unless travel is necessary. If you do have to travel, please slow down and allow yourself enough time to brake. Also, we suggest leaving earlier for your destination so you do not have to get in a hurry. As always wear your seat belt, stay off of your phone and drive safely. There is a Winter Weather Advisory until 6:00 AM on Sunday morning which means the road conditions will continue to be icy due to the below freezing temperatures. Call 911 for emergency situations and 424-2711 for non-emergency situations.
