Help us clean up your neighborhood!

The City of Decatur, Walk It Like We Talk It, and our local waste haulers are partnering to help you clear your home and property of unwanted items. Neighborhood Cleanups will occur in targeted neighborhoods throughout the summer. You can put unwanted items on your curb and the waste hauler will collect the items – it’s that simple!

 

Eligible homes for collection beginning week of October 2, 2023

Boundaries:
– North: Pershing Rd.
– South: Garfield
– East: 22nd Street
– West: MLK Dr.

 

 

Unwanted items can be placed on your curb as early as September 29, but NO LATER than October 1. Haulers will collect items the week of Oct. 2nd.

Examples of items you may discard:

  • appliances (must be disconnected)
  • carpeting
  • furniture
  • scrap metal
  • wood
  • mattresses

*Electronics and tires can only be disposed of at Hess Park, 2170 N Martin Luther King Jr Dr., on Saturday, September 30, 8a – noon

Items that cannot be discarded during this event: automotive products/fluids (accepted at Recycling Center), hazardous chemicals (accepted at Recycling Center), metal fencing, batteries (accepted at Civic Center lobby), concrete or rocks, or items larger than a normal-size appliance or house hold furniture.

 

Assistance getting items to your curb:

Volunteers will be available September 30, 8a – noon to help those in need of assistance. This includes those who are elderly, disabled, a veteran, or have special circumstances. Please register for assistance by completing the form below, or call Walk It Like We Talk It at 217-791-7203.
