Minority Contracting Forum Set for January 18, 2017

You are invited to attend the City of Decatur’s Minority Contracting Forum set for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Decatur Club located at 158 W. Prairie Ave. in Decatur. We are truly excited about this inaugural event which we see as an opportunity to continue building the relationships necessary to encouraging the inclusion of a diverse workforce on city public works projects while making sure that we meet the needs of both current and potential partners like you in the process.

As you may know, in March 2015 the Decatur City Council amended Chapter 28 of our city code to establish goals for participation by Minority Business Enterprises and minority workers on City public works projects. Today contractors on these projects are required to make a good faith effort to comply with the following minimum goals: ten (10) percent of the total dollar amount of the contract should be performed by Minority Business Enterprises if subcontracting opportunities are available and eighteen (18) percent of the total hours worked should be performed by minority workers. Subcontracting is not required for City projects; however, contractors shall make a good faith effort to meet the City’s minority participation goal if a subcontractor is used.

Simply put – this forum gives us all a chance for us all to get together and talk and to share information while coming together as potential partners. We know that meeting these goals is not something that we can – or should – do alone and your participation and input is critical to all of us being successful in continuing to build our community.

A flier announcing this event is attached. The time is listed as running from 1:30-4:30 p.m. because we want to allow time for questions and encourage discussion amongst attendees. Please contact us at 217-424-2801 if you plan to attend or if you have questions.
