Water Service – Metering staff are responsible for the reading and maintaining of approximately 31,000 residential, commercial, and industrial water meters each month.  Almost all residential and commercial waters meters are located inside the house or building.  Ninety-nine percent of the City’s water meters are read by a fixed Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system.  Residential meters are replaced on an average 13.5-year cycle.

Metering staff completes approximately 1,100 customer service calls each month.  Types of services provided to water customers are assistance with low pressure concerns, identifying leaks that result in high water bills and turning water services on and off requested by customers.

To protect the safety of our water distribution system, Metering staff keeps track of backflow device inspections, cross connection surveys and issues fire hydrant permits for contractors and bulk water haulers.
