Intersection, Lane, Road and Railroad Crossing Closures

The following lane and road closures have been posted by or reported to the city’s Public Works Department.  Closures can result from work being done in the street, the street and lane closed for safety reasons as private contractor perform work or are provided by outside agencies, such as IDOT or the Macon County Highway Department, that may affect travel in and around Decatur.

Please reduce speed and follow all signs in the work areas.

N MacArthur Road — 11/23/2021 to 11/24/2021

City crews will be performing catch basin repair work in the 3000 block of North MacArthur Road beginning Tuesday, November 23, 2021. This work will cause the closure of the outside northbound lanes of the 3000 block of North MacArthur Road, starting at 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2021, and will continue to approximately 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2021. East Cantrell Street — 11/18/2021 to 12/09/2021

Huttes Excavating & Concrete will be doing sidewalk/ramp replacement on East Cantrell Street, from South Martin Luther King Jr Drive to South Jasper Street, beginning Thursday, November 18, 2021, weather permitting. This work will cause the closure of the east bound lane of East Cantrell Street, from South Martin Luther King Jr Drive to South Jasper Street starting at 7:00 a.m., and will continue to approximately 3:30 p.m., Thursday, December 9, 2021. Various Streets in Downtown Area — 11/22/2021 to 12/31/2021

Ameren Illinois will be working on locating and raising manhole lids to grade on various streets downtown beginning Monday, November 22, 2021, weather permitting. This work will be using flaggers throughout various streets downtown for traffic control but no actual closures starting at 7:00 a.m., and will continue to approximately 5:00 p.m., Friday, December 31, 2021. Meadowlark Bridge — undetermined reopening

Due to the bridge’s declining condition, the City of Decatur has closed the southbound lane of the Meadowlark Drive Bridge  in the Meadowlark Neighborhood effective immediately.

The bridge is located along Meadowlark Drive in between Whippoorwill Drive and Hummingbird Drive. There will be a weight limit of 15 tons posted for the bridge.  No vehicles that weigh more than 15 tons may cross the bridge.

Northbound and southbound traffic will still be permitted to use the bridge, but only one lane will be open. Traffic travelling either direction must yield to oncoming traffic crossing the bridge before proceeding across. Please use caution when approaching the bridge and follow the direction of the signs and other traffic control posted.

This lane closure is in effect until the bridge is replaced, which is schedule for 2022.

Road Closures

550 S. Lakeshore Drive — until 03/11/2022

Christy-Foltz, Inc. will be removing and replacing the Lakeshore Pump Station at 550 S. Lakeshore Drive for the Sanitary District of Decatur. This work will cause the total closure of the road at 550 S. Lakeshore Drive starting immediately and will continue to approximately 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2022.
